Heritage Day South Africa Sept 24 2013

Elder Lonny Adams and Elder Rose at the Voortrekker Monument

Looking over Pretoria from the Monument

Sr couples--Sister Moyer, The Jones, Bob, the Adams inside the monument

At the top of the monument looking down from the top to the bottom floor.

The Voortrekkers were the Pioneers.  They were Dutch people who traveled by horse drawn wagons from Cape Town  across the veld (wilderness) to Pretoria and areas around.  They settled throughout South Africa and are called Africaners.  Their pioneer stories are so similar to our own stories of the US Pioneers to the west.  We displaced the Indians while they displaced the native black tribes.

We spent the afternoon visiting with the Van Rooyens, friends of the Adams who live in Krugersdorp.  Their daughter attends SLCC and joined the church last week in Salt Lake.  They were happy for her and we hope they will agree to be taught and be baptized as well.
